SAB Med, the Lebanese entity of SAB Group, has just committed to invest in an ecological approach to support the planting of cedar trees in Lebanon, and that up to 185 trees in 2017. Why 185? To enable each employee of SAB Med and SAB International, as well as the management of SAB Group and the Sustainable Development Committee, to individually possess his/her cedar and to feel fully invested in this action. Each planted cedar will be named after a SAB employee’s name and a certificate will be given to each employee to formalize the action.

Trees donated by SAB will be planted at the snowmelt, on a new site in Kfardebian, between May and June 2017. This reforestation project is located in Kfardebian, about forty kilometers northeast of Beirut, not far from the ski slopes. The project in which SAB Med participates is carried out by the NGO Jouzour Loubnan; on a very large area that will be fenced, more than 10,000 cedars and junipers will be planted. Why the cedar? In addition to its very strong symbol for all Lebanese, cedar is threatened with extinction mainly because of global warming.

Other stakeholders of SAB Group are not forgotten, the reforestation program will continue over several years, to give each employee a tree, wherever the SAB site, to reach a total of nearly 700 cedars.

This action in favor of the environment is part of the sustainable development objectives redefined by the UN in 2015 and supported by SAB Group. The Lebanon reforestation action is a continuation of actions taken in 2011 and continued in 2015 with the installation of hives on two sites of SAB France, in Fontenay-sous-Bois (Head Office) and Vannes.
